The adjoining improve of Tawas Beach was took in into East Tawas in 1922. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 3.29 square miles (8.52 km2), of which 2.84 square miles (7.36 km2) is territory and 0.45 square miles (1.17 km2) is water. East Tawas M-55, accessed through Tawas City, is one of only three state highways that extend athwart the U.S.
