State of Michigan and the governmental center of county of Isabella County, positioned in Central Michigan. The populace was 26,016 at the 2010 census.

The Homestead Act of 1862 also thriving many new settlers, including new European immigrants, to Mount Pleasant to precarious their stake on no-charge lands offered by the US government in exchange for their workforce in developing it for residence and agriculture.

Jordan started Mount Pleasant Business College.

Expanding in 1892, the school changed its name to Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute, the beginnings of what is now Central Michigan University.
